BS #51: Dark Lights

BlogSpasm #51

Boy, those “green,” energy-saving, solar powered, dimly lit and UGLY street lights that plague Irving Boulevard sure are conserving energy. They are conserving energy by not operating on cloudy and overcast days...especially, in the early morning hours like today. And this is not the first time they have been inoperable when it was pitch black outside.

Perhaps, the city manager’s $120,000 6-Sigma and former city employee-consultant can get the team together and figure out: When does public safety trump dumb inane bureaucratic ideas? The solar street light project was, after all, a result of high level bureaucratic action to pursue grant funding so that the “savings” could be squandered on other city projects.

Staff of the CCR would not bring this nuisance of inoperable lights and public safety to your attention, if we hadn’t been pounded by folks constantly yammering about the lack and quality of lighting on Irving Boulevard.

Maybe, the way to get the city manager’s attention to correct this problem is to have the Street Department shut down Irving Boulevard from Belt Line to Loop 12 when the lights are not functioning.

That might get someone off their out of their city office to address this public safety problem for Irving Boulevard motorists and business owners!
