BS #8: Taxpayers vs. Jocks

BlogSpasm #8...February 1, 2011

Just Asking: With the “Al Gore Global Warming Blizzard of 2011” hitting the city this morning, were you able to get out of your driveway and drive on sanded streets in your neighborhood to get to work or take care of an emergency?

If not, then you should have pulled up behind the city sand truck that was escorting the Green Bay Packers team busses from Irving to Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. Sure, it’s the Super Bowl week, but does the city receive reimbursement from the NFL for these special/additional expenses for city manpower and equipment?

Are you kidding? The NFL is even being refunded the sales tax for the tickets -- nearly $10 million -- courtesy of the Host Committee. Please send any left-over funds to (address omitted to protect the innocent), Irving, TX.

We Say: Sorry, the city's litter box only has sand...not bucks for rebates to taxpayers. MH

A reader sez:

While two sand/gravel trucks led the "Packer Parade" out of the city, some 70 cars sat totally stranded on the upgrade in front of the Four Seasons due to a total lack of proper sanding, if any at all, on the south bound lane of MacArthur at Northgate Drive.

We Say: This happens when you don't have an official "Jerry's World" decal on your windshield. MH
