CCR 05-29-20 Tax Letter

the   Controversial  Committee   Report
“We don’t raise sacred cows...we just butcher them.”

“Tax Letter”

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Dear Elected Official:

The clock is ticking and only you can ensure when time runs out very soon that you have voted on a proposed 2020-21 tax rate which homeowner-citizens, in your voting jurisdiction, will be accepting and applauding.  This will only occur if your tax rate is reduced to, at least, the very same revenue collection rate as last year, or less.  An even lower tax rate would better benefit your constituents.

Individuals and businesses have had to make serious personal and financial changes to their lives and operations due to the still present pandemic disaster.  There is no understandable rationale for your taxing entity not to do the same!

All scientific indications reflect this pandemic struggle will be true for the rest of this year and forward.

As you have to be aware, the State and Dallas County Appraisal District did not provide citizens with the relief, of decreased appraisal value considerations, or for appraisals remaining static, for the upcoming year.  Loopholes and politics seemed to abate any consideration of taking this action on their part.

And this, of course, places you in the position of being the very last resort for homeowners to actually seek tax relief in this unprecedented and turbulent time.

How will you justify increased tax collections, over last years revenue intake, to your constituents?  How can your taxing entity appear to be immune to the perils — lost jobs, reduced incomes, and increased expenditures — which are facing your constituents?

Yes, this will be a difficult decision for you to make.  You will have to ask yourself:  Will you vote for what is right and needed for constituents to receive genuine tax relief this year, or will you continue the status quo by falling in line with the whims of the bureaucracy spewing political talking points and finger pointing at other agencies?

Frankly, finger pointing does not resolve this problem.

Sincerely,

Well, dear readers, the above letter is yours to use/change/edit and contact those who will be responsible for setting the tax rate on your home this year.  For those living in Irving, the significant contact information, for the primary elected officials, is below.  Take a couple of minutes of time and voice you position of having to pay higher taxes in these trying times.

Remember, change will only occur when the voices of the people are heard.
