CCR 06-04-2020 Growing Movement?

the   Controversial  Committee   Report
“We don’t raise sacred cows...we just butcher them.”

“Growing Movement?”

Well, dear readers, if you didn’t have enough on your plate to worry about — the spreading of the COVID-19 virus and the potential of having to pay considerably higher property taxes this year — then you can add avoiding the criminal thugs who are looting neighborhood stores and businesses.

While protesting is a legitimate activity, breaking the law for self-greed could certainly be classified as unlawful domestic terrorism verging on anarchy.  Breaking into Macy’s, in NYC, for a Gucci hand bag is not protesting!

We’ll leave the handling of the riots  and thuggery to those with the experience and equipment in an attempt to keep CCR readers informed of what is possibly coming down the property-tax-highway by your local elected officials…as they begin their process of establishing a budget and tax rate for 2020-21.

From outward appearances, even with all the other current issues present, there seems to be a growing concern — by individuals in other cities — to ensure their elected officials understand a property tax rate reduction is not only needed, but is definitely necessary this year…without question.

To reflect on others who share this position, on keeping their elected officials aware of what is required, the following May 31, 2020, Letter to the Editor in The Dallas Morning News is provided:

Hell no, “No taxation without representation!" Let this message ring loud and clear with the mayors and city managers for all cities in the Dallas area and the rest of Texas: No passing of the buck downward to the homeowners and small businesses that have the least ability to pay any more taxes. These begging municipalities need to look inward for a fix, tightening the belt, slowing city services, reducing capital construction projects, cutting salaries for those who are highest paid, and renegotiating the “Ritz” retirement plans for city and county employees.
This is a call to action: Get your financial homes in order or surely you will be voted out and replaced with someone who has the savvy to run a city. This is the new reality. Manage your city and your finances, and let your deeds speak loudly with the voters.

James Sherrard, Plano

Without a doubt, Mr. Sherrard banged the nail on its head.  And his vocalization for Plano tax paying voters is a resounding call for others to become involved.  The tax rate formalized, without any confusion of determining who will guide this function, will be the total responsible of your local elected officials — city councils, school district boards, Dallas County Community College District trustees, Parkland Hospital Board of Managers, etc.  And if “finger pointing” at other governmental agencies happens by your local elected officials, consider this just their attempt of dodging the issue by filling a 5 pound bag with 10 pounds of Torofeca.

The Dallas Central Appraisal District does not set tax rates…they merely increase your appraised property values to pad a bloated operating budget funded by Dallas County cities and other county taxing entities.  (Just wondering: What if all the cities and agencies considered reducing their payments to DCAD by 10%?  Would this send a powerful message to DCAD?)

Redundancy: Again, the ball is in your court, dear reader, to become involved in being a part of this peaceful tax protest at this time of financial stress and national disorder.  After all, “change will only occur when the voices of the people are heard.”
