CCR 10-07-20 Time To Pick

 the   Controversial  Committee   Report

“We don’t raise sacred cows...we just butcher them.”

“Time To Pick”

It’s time to forget about all the obnoxious, fact-less, and expensive campaign brochures which filled your mailbox for the past two months.  There is no need to watch the babbling and blathering of campaign commercials on TV.  Yes, dear readers, the time is here for you to pick a candidate and go vote early.

What makes voting additionally strange this year is that the local city council and school board elections are being conducted along with the slate of national candidates.  All of this is due, of course, to the pandemic virus which has put a stranglehold on our city, state and country.

However, you still have an opportunity to vote early.  Early Voting will be from October 13 - October 30.  Election day voting is on November 3.

ADDENDUM:  In addition to City Hall, Irving Arts Center and Valley Ranch Library, early voting will also be conducted at Bear Creek Community Church located at 2700 Finley Road, Cimarron Recreational Center, and North Lake College.

Following is what will be on the local city council ballot:

Mayor:  Rick Stopfer, Olivia Novelo Abreu

Rick Stopfer is the incumbent mayor and has certainly worked and assisted in keeping Irving on an even keel during these trying times.  The CCR recommends voting for Rick as now is not the time to experience an unknown candidate for such an important office.

District 3:  Mark Zeske, Abdul Khabeer, Mohammed Akbar

Of the three candidates, the CCR would recommend Mark Zeske.  Mark’s resumé reflects he has been very active in community programs which have benefitted the citizenry.  He has served on the Planning and Zoning Commission, Irving Public Library Board, and various organizations which have provided charitable needs for those less fortunate.  This is the type of background which identifies a strong candidate who will keep the city moving in a positive direction.

District 5:  Oscar Ward

While Oscar Ward is running unopposed, be sure and vote for him.  He has really been an effective council member who dedicates an inordinate amount of time to assisting citizens with city issues.  He does a remarkable job of following up on citizen concerns.  Of course, being unopposed also speaks to Oscar’s record.

Staff of the CCR will not provide recommendations for any of the national candidates on the ballot.  In reviewing some of the races, the decision would actually become a Hobson’s Choice.  While there is an extreme difficulty in picking one or the other in a Hobson’s Choice situation, the difficulty is only intensified if one attempts to justify their choice.  Even a Texas Aggie would fail this test.

The main issue remains: Every registered voter should cast a ballot in person.  Those not voting have little, or no creditability in complaining about future outcomes when the process is over.
